Nikkei Glocal: Revitalisation and Rugby

An article by JLGC’s Andrew Stevens has been published in the latest (May 6) edition of the Japanese public executive magazine Nikkei Glocal (‘North East of England: revitalisation to large-scale development in the Tees Valley’).

The article looks at recent efforts by the new Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayor Ben Houchen to revitalize the local area through the South Tees Development Corporation’s former steelworks site at Redcar and the Durham-Tees Valley Airport, both recently purchased by the combined authority using the mayor’s new powers. Tees Valley was also recently chosen as a host city and team base for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup on the back of its successful hosting of the NZ All Blacks training facilities during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Nikkei Glocal is published by Nikkei Inc.’s Research Institute of Industry and Regional Economy and aims to foster creative regions in Japan.  Its series reporting on local government initiatives outside of Japan is compiled through the cooperation of Japanese overseas agencies such as embassies, trade missions and international representatives (e.g. CLAIR).
