Nikkei Glocal: London Borough of Culture 2019

An article by JLGC’s Andrew Stevens has been published in the latest (August 6) edition of the Japanese public executive magazine Nikkei Glocal (‘London Borough of Culture as area branding initiative’).

The article looks at how the London Borough of Culture initiative of the Mayor of London, inspired by the UK City and European Capital of Culture programmes, will take place during 2019 in its inaugural borough of Waltham Forest (a Host Borough of the London 2012 Olympics).  The article revisits the borough after Andrew’s 2016 article on how it had also bid for mayoral funds to provide cycle-friendly streetscaping to promote regeneration (‘Mini Holland – an attempt for area branding’).

Nikkei Glocal is published by Nikkei Inc.’s Research Institute of Industry and Regional Economy and aims to foster creative regions in Japan.  Its series reporting on local government initiatives outside of Japan is compiled through the cooperation of Japanese overseas agencies such as embassies, trade missions and international representatives (e.g. CLAIR).
