Action Plan to promote Japan’s regions: new ‘Local to Global’ Project

This month Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Foreign Minister Mr Fumio Kishida visited Miyagi Prefecture with diplomats stationed in Japan from seven countries, as part of a new initiative, the ‘Local to Global’ Project, which aims to promote the attractiveness of Japan’s regions worldwide.

Under the project, Minister Kishida visited regional areas of Japan with foreign diplomats to share the attractiveness of the regions, engage in dialogue with local people, and promote each region’s appeal to the world, with the aim of connecting Japan’s regional areas internationally and further revitalizing these areas.

During a symposium held at Tohoku University on November 23, Minister Kishida announced a new Action Plan for promoting local appeals to the world based on three core initiatives: the expansion of sales channels for regional products, the promotion of tourism in Japan, and the acceleration of global interaction on a regional basis.
