Call for Entries: The 5th Kitakyushu International Manga Competition

The Kitakyushu International Manga Competition is held with the aim of furthering the spread of manga culture throughout the world. The competition is back for the fifth year and is now accepting entries until 2pm, Wednesday 2 September 2020 (Japan Standard Time).

Contestants are required to submit an original 4-panel manga. The competition is open to professional and amateur manga artists of all ages and nationalities. Last year the competition saw 1,140 submissions from 24 countries and regions around the world, including Japan.

The winners will be announced in early November 2020. Awards include 300,000 yen for the Grand Prix winner and 200,000 yen for the Overseas Participant Award winner. Please see the website for details of the other awards and the application requirements.

Opened on 3 August 2012, the Kitakyushu Manga Museum exhibits the works of manga artists throughout the year for manga enthusiasts of all ages. With its slogan of “watch, read, draw”, the Kitakyushu Manga Museum is an enchanting place offering enjoyment for different generations and attracting many visitors both from Japan and overseas.
