London-Tokyo Training Programme

In 2010 the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) resumed its training programme for posting its staff overseas on short study-focused placements. Our office received four delegates from TMG this autumn, posted from the Bureau of Urban Development (Mr Shirai and Mr Matsunuma), Bureau of Construction (Mr Fujisaki) and the Bureau of Waterworks (Ms Takahashi). As part of their stay in London, a series of visits were made in support of research around improved use of freight towards low carbon societies, climate change policies in water supply, waterfront regeneration and the better utilisation of urban public space.

Our office and Tokyo Metropolitan Government would like to thank the Greater London Authority, City of London Corporation, Transport for London, London Climate Change Partnership and Design for London for their invaluable assistance in supporting the city to city learning programme around the common challenges faced by both London and Tokyo.
