JLGC at the Japan Matsuri 2010

On Saturday 18 September 2010, the Japan Local Government Centre will be taking part in Japan Matsuri 2010. The festival is taking place at Spitalfields Market near Liverpool Street Station and will be a celebration of all things Japanese: food, music, anime, manga, tradition arts, sake, and much, much more.

From 10am to 8pm there will be not only stalls from various organisations and businesses, but also demonstrations of martial arts and performances on different stages around the market.

For Japan Matsuri 2010 the Japan Local Government Centre will be introducing Onsen – Japanese hot springs! Our stall will be bringing together information on where to find onsen, practical advice on how to bath without a cultural faux pas, and introducing the history of onsen through British eyes.

With a hot spring quiz (and some spectacular prizes for everyone who has a go) and the opportunity to have a photo taken in Japanese yukata – a light kimono worn at hot spring resorts – this is an interactive stall run which will give you a taste of onsen culture!

You can also contribute to our map of Japan! We’d like you to help us create a Japan out of your questions, thoughts and experiences by pinning your handwritten messages to our giant map. Read what others have written; maybe you can answer someone else’s question!

If you’re planning a trip to Japan our staff members are seconded from all over Japan so we will also be bringing along information on prefectures you might not have heard of off the beaten track.

Come and join us at Japan Matsuri 2010!
