Promoting Local Attractions Through Recipes

Japan Local Government Centre has created a series of cooking recipes with tourism information titled ‘Cook Local Japan’, which can be found here on our website. The project aims to raise interest and encourage tourists to visit various areas of Japan.

As part of this project, an online event was held on February 26 (Sunday) to promote ‘Cook Local Japan’ primarily to UK residents. The event’s goal was to encourage both visiting Japan and Japanese dishes. Visitors to the ‘Cook Local Japan’ website can find recipes from around Japan that use ingredients that can be found in the UK. They can also access tourist information about the different regions. Furthermore, Kanako Mathys, a cheese expert who lives in the UK, gave a lecture about pairing cheese with Japanese ingredients. In this way, we would like British people to enjoy Japanese food by using familiar cheeses. As part of the lecture, dishes and ingredients widely popular in Japan were introduced. Cheeses were paired with okonomiyaki, nasu dengaku and baked curry. The event was well attended by people interested in Japanese food and finished with many enthusiastic questions about topics such as Japanese condiments and cheeses.

A recording of this event (in English) will be available at the link below until April 26th:
