JLGC and Solace joint Japan Day Seminar 2014: “Local Growth, Global Links”

This year JLGC and the Society for Local Authority Chief Executives (Solace) will hold a joint seminar – ‘Local Growth, Global Links’, a free event bringing together leading Chief Executives, LEP members and business leaders to share their experiences for building partnerships outside the UK to build local economic growth. Using Japan as the case study in the context of wider international links at the regional level, speakers will share the benefits in job creation and inward investment that have been brought by working with global business in the UK and building links with regions abroad. The event will be held on 11 March 2014, 10.30-13.00 (followed by a networking lunch) at Church House, Westminster, London SW1P 3NZ

The current lineup (subject to change) for the day is as follows:

09.30 – 10.30 Registration

10.30 – 10.45 Opening words by Michael Burton (then moderating throughout)

10.45 – 11.30 Session ONE; The current trends in UK LAs and their global links:

11.30 – 12.15 Session TWO; UK-Japan case study of success LA exchange:

Cllr Joan Dixon, Cabinet Member, Jobs, Economy and Transport, Derbyshire CC, presenting with Rob Gorton, Corporate Planning Section Manager, Toyota UK and Jun Arima, Director, JETRO London, panel discussion.

12.15 – 12.30 Break

12.30 – 13.15 Session THREE; Lessons learnt from Miyagi Japan Study Tour and what to take away from Japan:

13.15 – 13.30 Wrap-up and final questions, followed by buffet lunch and networking

Japan Day Seminar is an annual event organised by the Japan Local Government Centre to raise awareness of Japan and Japanese local government and provide a real-time opportunity to exchange information and ideas on local government policy and best practice concerning both the UK and Japan.
