Japanese investment in UK green technology

Some news concerning Japanese investment in the UK green technology industry. Firstly, Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department for Energy and Climate Change, signalling its intention to invest up to £100m in UK wind turbine R&D projects, with up to 200 highly skilled jobs to be created by 2014. Senior Executive Vice President Ichiro Fukue and MPSE CEO Akio Fukui said:

Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe is delighted to be working in partnership with the UK Government to create this exciting opportunity for the development of world-class offshore wind technology in the UK. MHI’s Ship Building division is interested in entering the offshore wind installation and operation and maintenance vessel market. We have been working with UKTI for some time and we look forward to further growing our offshore wind business with UK-based partner and supply chain businesses from 2010, bringing much needed competition into the offshore wind turbine supply market, and economic benefit to the UK.

Nissan has also been announced as a partner in the consortium led by the Greater London Authority to create a network of around 7,500 electric car charging points in the capital by spring 2013. Pierre Loing, Nissan International vice president of product planning and strategy and in charge of the company’s zero emission business unit, said:

Nissan is delighted to be part of London’s successful Plugged-In consortium. We look forward to working with Transport for London and other consortium members to build a network of publicly accessible rapid charging points across London.
