2025年９月、ロンドン事務所の面するホワイトホールという大通りにて、約11万人が参加し、26人の警察官が負傷、25人が逮捕されたと報じられた大規模な反移民デモが行われました。
デモから３カ月が経過した現在は表に見える反移民の動きは感じませんが、世論調査では回答者の50％が英国の重要課題として「移民」を挙げていることからも、依然として英国人の関心は高いことが分かります。
こうした流れを受け、英国政府は2025年11月に、移民政策に関する新たな方針を示す文書「秩序と統制の回復：政府の難民保護・送還政策に関する方針（Restoring Order and Control: A statement on the Government’s Asylum and Returns Policy, CP1418）」を議会に提出しました。
文書の中で政府は、英仏海峡を渡る不法入国の増加を制度の危機と捉え、三つの方針を示しています。
第一に、庇護制度を恒久保護から30カ月ごとの更新制に改め、永住権取得までの期間を現在の５年から最長20年に延長すること、第二に、送還を迅速化し、安全国への送還再開や密航組織対策を強化すること、第三に、庇護申請者への生活支援を現在の義務から政府の裁量に改め、資産保有者に費用負担を求めるとともに、ホテル滞在を廃止して集約施設へ移行することです。
この政府方針に対し、議会や人権団体は、難民の経済参加を妨げる点や一時的保護制度への見直し・送還の対象拡大について批判しています。
12月２日には「国境安全保障・庇護・移民法（Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act 2025）」が成立し、取締り強化が進む中、英国の移民・難民政策の行方が注目されています。
