{"id":5398,"date":"2015-11-02T14:38:24","date_gmt":"2015-11-02T14:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/?p=5398"},"modified":"2015-11-02T14:40:22","modified_gmt":"2015-11-02T14:40:22","slug":"london-tokyo-exchange-knowledge-during-rwc-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/international-exchange\/london-tokyo-exchange-knowledge-during-rwc-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"London &#038; Tokyo exchange knowledge during RWC 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Declared the biggest and best ever by\u00a0organisers, the\u00a02015 Rugby World Cup saw a flurry of visits to\u00a0London by Japanese Host Cities during the final week of the tournament, eager\u00a0to learn from the capital for their own staging of the games in 2019.\u00a0 Among these were visits by Tokyo Governor Yoichi\u00a0Masuzoe\u00a0and an 11-strong cross-party delegation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting a number of sites across the capital and team bases elsewhere during their stay, the Tokyo Assembly group were hosted at London City Hall by Assembly Chair\u00a0Jenette\u00a0Arnold and Environment Committee chair Darren Johnson, both of whom have served on the assembly since its creation in 2000 and led on the scrutiny of all key plans and policies for the London 2012 Games.\u00a0 As well as the recent staging of the two major sporting events in London, the meeting discussed education and housing as two policy areas which both capital city\u00a0assemblies could share inter-city learning\u00a0in future to guide strategy\u00a0to meet the needs of their growing populations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5399\" alt=\"BN-DK946_popula_G_20140626062216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/BN-DK946_popula_G_20140626062216.jpg\" width=\"553\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/BN-DK946_popula_G_20140626062216.jpg 553w, https:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/BN-DK946_popula_G_20140626062216-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 553px) 100vw, 553px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The meeting also discussed the expectant needs of how global cities are governed and raise finance in an era of\u00a0decentralisation\u00a0and it was here where recent research shared between both city assemblies through JLGC came into focus.<\/p>\n<p>Darren Johnson AM, chair of the assembly&#8217;s Devolution Working Group, whose recent report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/jlgc-news\/the-future-governance-of-london-lessons-from-tokyo\/\">drew on JLGC&#8217;s\u00a0case study\u00a0of Tokyo<\/a> and also that of New York, said: <em>&#8220;Cities are taking the lead on many of the big challenges we face today, so I always welcome talking with and learning from representatives of other major world cities.
