{"id":3949,"date":"2009-09-03T12:53:47","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T12:53:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jlgc.wordpress.com\/?p=458"},"modified":"2021-05-19T17:15:06","modified_gmt":"2021-05-19T16:15:06","slug":"2016-bid-enters-final-straight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jlgc.org.uk\/en\/international-exchange\/2016-bid-enters-final-straight\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 bid enters final straight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As noted over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tokyo2016.or.jp\/en\/report-blog\/2009\/09\/ioc_report_highlights_tokyos_s.html\">Tokyo 2016 blog<\/a>, the IOC&#8217;s Evaluation Commission Report has been published ahead of the final vote in Copenhagen on 2 October to determine the host city for the 2016 Olympics.  Highlights of Tokyo 2016&#8217;s evaluation include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Games concept is based on providing minimum travel time for athletes and other client groups, through a highly compact venue plan&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By organising the 2016 Games, Tokyo wishes to build upon the positive legacy of the 1964 Games through a combination of using former Olympic venues and building new facilities and infrastructure, thereby creating a &#8220;100 year&#8221; Olympic legacy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;to demonstrate its determination, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which drives the bid, has financially guaranteed the Games and has established an &#8220;Olympic Hosting Reserve Fund&#8221; of USD 3.7 billion&#8221;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara said: \u2018\u2018Tokyo was evaluated highly with regards to placing importance on the environment with its compact Olympics concept, efficient public transport system and financial capability.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018We will continue to pour all our efforts in until the host city is decided at the IOC session in October.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Members of Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Assembly will be in Copenhagen from the end of September to campaign until the last moment for the bid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As noted over at the Tokyo 2016 blog, the IOC&#8217;s Evaluation Commission Report has been published ahead of the final vote in Copenhagen on 2 October to determine the host city for the 2016 Olympics.
