The League, which aims to <em>&#8220;deepen mutual understanding by transcending national boundaries and building on the common foundation of historical cities to strengthen affiliations between cities&#8221;<\/em>, was initiated by the City of Kyoto in 1987 and has existed in its current form since 1994.<\/p>\n<p>The UK member of the League, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.norwich.gov.uk\/\">Norwich<\/a>, was represented at the event by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heritagecity.org\/\">Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART)<\/a>, a charitable trust which develops the city&#8217;s tourist offer through better use of heritage assets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World Conference of Historical Cities was held in Kyoto this month, under the auspices of the League of Historical Cities, which is chaired by the city&#8217;s mayor Daisaku Kadokawa.
