Activities and Events
Japan Local Government Centre is involved in a number of activites and events throughout the year. Please see the links to the left for some of these activities. For current, upcoming or recent events please see the homepage.
JLGC Seminar is an annual event organised by the Japan Local Government Centre to raise awareness of Japan and Japanese local government among UK local government officials and related organisations, as well as providing an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and information and the creation of lasting links between the two nations, their cities and local governments.
Japan Study Tour is an annual programme which aims principally to promote mutual understanding between Japanese and UK local government. JLGC invites applications from senior level staff of British local authorities and associated bodies, to join this 10 day study tour to study the current condition and issues related to Japanese local government. Each year’s study tour focuses on the following:
*Observing Japanese public management systems in action
*Studying and discussing specific services in small group sessions
*Investigating opportunities for building links through inward investment and professional collaboration
The tour is split into two parts. Firstly the group visits CLAIR HQ in Tokyo to learn about overall structure of Japanese local government, and related sites in the area. After this the group travels to a region of Japan to observe local authorities and their work; meeting their Japanese counterparts and visiting facilities relevant to the theme of the tour. For more information, and to register interest in forthcoming tours please email email@example.com
JLGC takes part in a variety of Japan Related Events for the general public throughout the year, on behalf of Japanese local government. Events for 2015 included the annual Japan Matsuri and Hyper Japan festivals in London, as well as Japan Day in Düsseldorf. JLGC works with various Japan related organisations, such as the Embassy of Japan, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), Japan Foundation, as well as Japan’s cities and regions, to promote UK and EU links with Japan.
JLGC Supports Japanese Local Authorities in a variety of ways in their international links and strategy, such as carrying out research requests, assisting delegations from Japan on official municipal visits and research trips, as well as a variety of overseas marketing for economic development by attracting tourism and inward investment (e.g. city promotion).
Sister (Friendship) City Affiliations are also supported by JLGC, providing a bridge between UK and Japanese linked authorities, supporting joint projects in staff development, economic links, education exchange and linking communities in Europe and Japan.
